Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 20, 2026
1. Who we are and what this policy covers
This Privacy Policy explains how AskProxy ("AskProxy," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, shares, and retains personal information when you use the website and services at askproxy.ai (the "Service") — whether you are a visitor chatting with a proxy, a profile owner with an account, or someone joining our waitlist. It should be read together with our Terms of Service.
Questions or requests can go to privacy@askproxy.ai or chris@askproxy.ai.
2. Information we collect
Chat messages
When you chat with a proxy, the messages you send and the AI responses you receive are stored and associated with an anonymous session ID — you do not need an account to chat, and we do not ask for your name to chat. Chat transcripts are retained to operate and improve the Service and are visible to the profile owner whose proxy you chatted with, and to the site administrator. Treat a chat like a message to that person, and avoid including sensitive personal information.
Analytics and log data
Like most websites, we automatically collect basic analytics events when you use the Service, including your IP address, user agent (browser and device type), pages viewed, and similar technical information. We use this to understand usage, keep the Service secure, and prevent abuse.
Optional product analytics and session recording (consent-gated)
With your consent, we use PostHog for product analytics and session recording (a replay of how you interact with pages, used to find usability problems and bugs). These run only after you accept our cookie-consent banner. If you decline, PostHog analytics and session recording are not activated for your visit. See Section 4 for details on managing consent.
Contact-form submissions
If you use the contact form on a profile, we collect the name, email address, and message you provide. Your submission is delivered by email to the profile owner (sent through our email provider, Resend), so they can reply to you directly.
Waitlist
If you join our waitlist, we collect the email address (and any related details) you provide, and use it to contact you about access to and news about the Service.
Account information
If you create an account, you sign in with Google or with a sign-in link we email you. With Google, we receive your Google account name and email address; with an email link, we receive the email address you enter. We use this to create and secure your account and to communicate with you about the Service.
Payment information
Where paid plans are offered, payments are processed by Stripe. AskProxy does not store your card numbers; we keep records of your plan and subscription status. Stripe's handling of your payment details is governed by Stripe's own privacy policy.
Profile content
Profile owners provide background material about themselves (their "source material"), which we store and use to generate their proxy's responses.
3. How we use information
- To provide the Service — generating AI chat responses (which involves sending profile source material and chat messages to our AI provider, Anthropic), operating profiles, delivering contact-form messages, and managing accounts and subscriptions.
- To show profile owners their conversations — chat transcripts and contact submissions for a profile are made available to that profile's owner.
- To improve the Service — reviewing usage, chat quality, and (where consented) product analytics and session recordings to fix bugs and improve the experience.
- To keep the Service safe — detecting and preventing abuse, spam, prompt-injection attempts, and scraping; enforcing our Terms of Service.
- To communicate with you — service updates, waitlist and account emails, and responses to your requests.
- To comply with law — meeting legal, tax, and accounting obligations, and responding to lawful requests.
Where GDPR applies, our legal bases are: performance of a contract (providing the Service), your consent (optional analytics and session recording), legitimate interests (security, abuse prevention, improving the Service), and legal obligation.
4. Cookies and consent
We use a small number of essential cookies and similar storage that are necessary for the Service to work — for example, keeping you signed in and remembering your cookie-consent choice. These do not require consent.
Optional analytics cookies (PostHog), including session recording, are used only after you accept the cookie-consent banner shown on your first visit. If you decline, they stay off. You can withdraw consent at any time by clearing cookies and site data for askproxy.ai in your browser (the banner will appear again, and you can decline), or by emailing privacy@askproxy.ai.
5. How we share information
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We share information only:
- With profile owners — the owner of a profile can see the chat transcripts and contact-form submissions for their own profile, as described above.
- With service providers (subprocessors) — companies that process data on our behalf to run the Service, listed in Section 6, under agreements that restrict their use of the data.
- For legal reasons — if required by law or valid legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of AskProxy, our users, or the public.
- In a business transfer — if AskProxy is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, personal information may transfer as part of that transaction; this policy would continue to apply to it.
6. Subprocessors
We currently use the following providers to operate the Service:
| Provider | Purpose | Data involved |
|---|---|---|
| Anthropic | AI model provider — generates proxy chat responses | Chat messages, profile source material |
| Railway | Application hosting (United States) | All service data |
| PostgreSQL (on Railway) | Primary database | Accounts, profiles, chat logs, subscriptions |
| Redis | Caching and session/rate-limit state | Session identifiers, transient service data |
| Stripe | Payment processing | Payment details (card numbers never touch AskProxy) |
| Resend | Transactional email delivery | Sign-in links, contact-form submissions, service emails |
| PostHog | Product analytics and session recording (only with your consent) | Usage events, session replays |
| Sign-in (Google Identity) | Account name and email |
We may update this list as the Service evolves; material changes will be reflected in an update to this policy.
7. How long we keep information
- Chat logs (visitor messages and AI responses) are retained for up to 24 months from collection, after which they are deleted or anonymized.
- Account information and profile content are kept while your account is active, and deleted within a reasonable period after you delete your account (routine backups may persist briefly afterward).
- Contact-form submissions are delivered to the profile owner; delivery records are kept only as long as needed for email operations.
- Waitlist emails are kept until we've fulfilled the purpose you signed up for, or until you ask us to remove you.
- Payment and subscription records are kept as long as required for tax, accounting, and legal purposes.
- Analytics events are kept only as long as needed for the purposes in Section 3.
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have some or all of the following rights over your personal information:
- Access and portability — get a copy of the data we hold about you in a portable format.
- Correction — ask us to fix inaccurate information.
- Deletion — ask us to delete your account and associated data.
- Restriction and objection — ask us to limit certain processing, or object to processing based on legitimate interests.
- Withdraw consent — where processing is based on consent (such as optional analytics), withdraw it at any time without affecting prior processing.
To exercise these rights: account holders can export their data and delete their account (and its data) directly from their account settings, or anyone can email privacy@askproxy.ai or chris@askproxy.ai. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request, and we respond within the timelines required by applicable law.
GDPR (EEA/UK): in addition to the rights above, you have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data-protection supervisory authority. Our legal bases for processing are listed in Section 3.
CCPA/CPRA (California): you have the right to know what personal information we collect, use, and disclose; to request deletion and correction; and to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined in the CCPA. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights. You may designate an authorized agent to make requests on your behalf.
9. Where your data is processed
The Service is hosted in the United States, and the providers listed in Section 6 process data primarily in the United States. If you use the Service from outside the U.S. (including from the EEA or UK), your information will be transferred to and processed in the U.S., where privacy laws may differ from those in your jurisdiction. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for such transfers.
10. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect personal information, including encryption in transit, access controls, and reliance on established infrastructure providers. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security — another reason not to share sensitive personal information in proxy chats.
11. Children
The Service is not directed to children, and children under 16 are not permitted to use it. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe a child under 16 has provided us personal information, contact privacy@askproxy.ai and we will delete it.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page, and for material changes we will provide additional notice (for example, on the site or by email to account holders). Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect means the updated policy applies.
13. Contact
For privacy questions or requests: privacy@askproxy.ai or chris@askproxy.ai.
This policy was prepared by AskProxy without outside legal counsel. If anything here is unclear, or you have questions about how it applies to you, contact chris@askproxy.ai.
